A. What are the different storage modes supported?
LogMeOnce supports two storage modes.
- Cloud Storage Mode
All your usernames and passwords are first encrypted with Military-Grade AES-256 on your computer and then transferred to LogMeOnce secure cloud service. This is ideal for individuals who need to access their credentials from multiple locations (home, office, hotel, etc.), and multiple devices (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android). Easily access from anywhere in the world.
- Desktop Storage Mode
If you prefer to keep your passwords with you, and not on a cloud service, then this option is for you. You can store your usernames and passwords on your own computer. Your data remains encrypted in your computer only, and are not stored on our cloud service. Keep in mind you can only use your data on this computer. Your passwords will stay encrypted both on your desktop and can be used only on the desktop that LogMeOnce was installed.
B. How can I change my LogMeOnce Storage Mode?
You can switch between Cloud Storage mode and Desktop Storage mode from setting by visiting https://secure.logmeonce.com/settings
or
1. Go to Settings from the Storage Mode.
2. Select the Storage Mode menu on the left side.
3.This shows your current storage mode. In this example, it is set to Cloud Storage Mode. You can change it to other cloud storage modes by clicking on the Green button.
C. Where are my Desktop Storage files located?
If you receive the error message "Your LogMeOnce Desktop data is not present on this computer" while attempting to login to LogMeOnce, it means that the system was unable to access your data in the designated location. There are a few potential reasons for this:
- You are attempting to login from a different PC where you have previously moved your data from the cloud to the desktop storage mode.
- You are trying to login as a different user on the same PC where the files were originally created, but the file location may be different for that user.
- You have created a new user profile on the PC, and the files are not available to that profile.
- The files have been deleted from their designated location.
Note that your LogMeOnce desktop storage is located on the PC where LogMeOnce was first installed. These files are created when you move your data from the cloud to your PC, and your passwords are loaded from this location.
The LogMeOnce files are stored in the following location on a Windows operating system:
C:\Users\<system_username>\LogmeOnce\profile\<logmeonce_username>
<logmeonce_username> - This is your LogMeOnce username for example johndoe@gmail.com
Inside this folder, you will see a file called user.logmeonce which is the LogMeonce encrypted file.
D. Is there any difference between Desktop Storage Mode and Cloud Storage Mode?
There are no differences, they both mostly work the same way. Some features such as using it on multiple devices are not available since passwords are stored in one computer.
E. How my passwords are backed up?
When you select Desktop storage mode, since your passwords are in the PC that you have originally installed software and not in the cloud, you are responsible for your backups.
You can take a LogMeOnce backup from the Export menu in the LogMeOnce extension and keep the backup files in a safe place and restore it as needed.
F. When selecting Desktop Storage Mode, can I still use LogMeOnce on other PC's?
No, it is not possible, since you have selected desktop storage mode that means, your data are stored on the computer that LogMeOnce was originally installed. If you need to use it on other computers then it should be stored in Cloud storage mode, so it can be used on other computers and mobile devices.
G. How to restore my LogMeOnce when it was stored in desktop storage mode?
If you have selected Desktop Storage mode, it is important to make your own backup. If you have your own back, please follow the following steps:
1. Go to the following folder in your new device or create the folder if needed C:\Users\<system_username>\LogmeOnce\profile\<logmeonce_username>
<logmeonce_username> - This is your LogMeOnce username for example johndoe@gmail.com
Inside this folder, you will see a file called user.logmeonce which is the LogMeonce encrypted file.
2. Locate your LogMeOnce backup file. The LogMeOnce backup file has . logMeonce extension and a filename in this format.
backup file format: <backup_date>.logmeonce
Example backup file: "10-02-18 16-04-45.logmeonce"
3. Inside this folder, you will see a file called user.logmeonce which is the LogMeonce encrypted file. If the file does not exist, rename the "10-02-18 16-04-45.logmeonce" to user.logmeonce
4. Copy the user.logmeonce file to C:\Users\<system_username>\AppData\LocalLow\LogmeOnce\profile\<logmeonce_username>
You may try to login to LogMeonce.
