What is Passkey?
Passkey enables you to log in to your accounts securely without the need for traditional passwords. Your passkeys are securely stored in the LogMeOnce vault, protected, encrypted, and synced across all your devices. They are faster, easier to use, and much more secure than your passwords. User verification can be done by your master password or a variety of passwordless options from LogMeOnce, like biometric or PIN. Passkeys are the future of authentication that will eventually replace passwords. Can be used as a sign in option or 2FA method. They are a widely accepted standard brought to us by FIDO (Fast Identity Online) Alliance.
Benefits of Using Passkey
- Enhanced Security: Eliminates risks associated with weak or stolen passwords.
- Convenience: Quick and easy access without memorizing complex passwords.
- Compatibility: Works with biometric devices and hardware security keys.
- Compliance: Adheres to industry standards for authentication protocols.
How passkeys works
Passkeys use public key cryptography techniques to provide phishing-resistant authentication, this method reduces the threat of potential data breaches. When a user creates a passkey on a site, LogMeOnce generates a public-private key pair on the user's device that is bounded only to this site domain. LogMeOnce acts as authenticator and saves private key, while the public key is passed to the site. Possession of a public key is useless to an attacker.
Now, once everything is ready, and the site attempts to sign-in a user, it communicates with LogMeOnce with a randomly generated challenge and the private key is used for digital signature. In this step the user may be asked to verify himself with password, PIN or biometrics. Once this step is completed, the site receives challenge-response and verifies it with its public key.

Managing your passkeys
All your passwords and passkeys are available under the “Password Manager” section of LogMeOnce. We call them apps. All apps share the same functionality, you can group them or share them with your friends and family. Both can be searched, filtered, can have 2FA code, secure note or extra files. The only thing that is different is the login type. If you need to quickly find your passkeys, there is a new search filter under search tools - Login Type. This way you can easily search your passkeys.
